Staff Accountant
A growing insurance organization is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its accounting team. This individual will play a key role in supporting the month-end close process, preparing journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and assisting with financial reporting. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to continue building their accounting career within the insurance industry while gaining exposure to multiple areas of accounting and finance.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries as part of the monthly close process
- Complete balance sheet and account reconciliations
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
- Support expense accounting and accrual processes
- Analyze financial results and investigate variances
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation
- Assist with audits and regulatory reporting requests
- Partner with internal teams to ensure financial data is complete and accurate
- Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 1-4 years of accounting experience within an insurance company
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close processes
- Experience preparing journal entries and reconciliations
- Familiarity with statutory accounting principles is a plus
- Strong Excel skills and experience working within an ERP system
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate across departments
Preferred Background
- Property & Casualty, Life & Annuities, Health Insurance, Reinsurance, MGA, or Insurtech experience
- Exposure to statutory and/or GAAP reporting
- Progress toward CPA designation is a plus
