Position Summary
This role is responsible for handling and adjusting liability claims and related litigation involving insured parties. Key responsibilities include reviewing policies to determine coverage, investigating claims, assessing liability, and evaluating damages such as property loss and bodily injury.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and confirm coverage for assigned claims by reviewing policy language and comparing it against the reported allegations; issue clear and timely coverage determinations.
- Conduct thorough investigations, either independently or in coordination with external investigators.
- Review and interpret a variety of documentation, including contracts, leases, governing documents, internal business records, public records, medical reports, and property damage estimates.
- Establish and maintain appropriate claim reserves in a timely manner; evaluate exposure and determine fair settlement value.
- Lead settlement negotiations with claimants, attorneys, and other stakeholders.
- Adhere to internal guidelines, workflows, and best practices.
- Oversee and collaborate with defense counsel, including monitoring litigation progress and reviewing discovery.
- Maintain detailed, accurate claim file documentation and notes.
- Effectively manage workload using a structured diary or task management system.
- Support special initiatives and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Professional designations such as CPCU, AIC, or SCLA are a plus.
- Minimum of 2+ years handling premises liability claims.
- Experience with claims management systems (e.g., Guidewire or similar platforms) is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Solid analytical thinking and negotiation skills.
- High level of initiative and intellectual curiosity.
- Ability to build effective relationships with brokers, legal counsel, and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated empathy and professionalism when working with claimants.
Additional Requirements:
- Occasional local travel may be required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any necessary state licenses.
