Senior Reinsurance Accountant
Overview
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Senior Reinsurance Accountant to join their growing insurance organization. This role will support key accounting and reporting functions related to reinsurance activities and work closely with finance, actuarial, and operations teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation with exposure to insurance or reinsurance accounting; experience with statutory reporting and Yellow Book (NAIC) is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review reinsurance accounting entries, including premiums, losses, commissions, and settlements
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to reinsurance activity
- Reconcile reinsurance balances, including ceded and assumed accounts
- Support statutory (NAIC) reporting, including schedules and footnotes, as applicable
- Assist with preparation of financial statements and regulatory filings
- Analyze reinsurance contracts and ensure proper accounting treatment
- Collaborate with actuarial and underwriting teams to validate data and results
- Assist with internal and external audits, including providing supporting documentation
- Identify and implement process improvements to streamline reporting and controls
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5-10 years of accounting experience, preferably within insurance or reinsurance
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial reporting
- Experience with reinsurance accounting concepts (ceded and/or assumed) preferred
- Exposure to statutory accounting principles (SAP) and/or Yellow Book (NAIC) reporting is a strong plus
- CPA or progress toward certification is a plus
- Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Nice-to-Have
- Experience in a P&C insurance environment
- Familiarity with Schedule F or reinsurance-specific disclosures
- Experience working cross-functionally with actuarial teams
