Merger Arb Senior Analyst
A leading multi-strategy investment firm is looking to hire a Merger Arbitrage Analyst to support the build-out of a refreshed event-driven platform. The role sits alongside a senior portfolio lead and offers the opportunity to help shape the evolution of the strategy from an early stage.
The mandate focuses on merger arbitrage, but with a modernised approach that moves beyond traditional "vanilla" frameworks. The investment process combines systematic portfolio construction with discretionary, high-conviction analysis, alongside incorporating broader qualitative insights to enhance decision-making.
The role
This is a specialist analytical position rather than a PM seat. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Analysing announced M&A transactions and forming clear, evidence-based views on deal outcomes
- Identifying key risks to completion and monitoring situations where probabilities are shifting
- Providing structured recommendations to inform portfolio positioning
- Contributing to the investment process within a centrally managed, quantitatively driven framework
Portfolio construction, execution, and risk management are handled at the platform level, allowing the individual to focus on idea generation and differentiated insight.
Candidate profile
- 5+ years experience within merger arbitrage, event-driven investing, or closely related strategies (buy-side preferred)
- Strong track record analysing M&A situations, with demonstrated deal pattern recognition
- Ability to combine rigorous data-driven analysis with sound judgement on softer qualitative factors (e.g. stakeholder behaviour, regulatory dynamics, deal structure)
- Comfortable operating in a hybrid discretionary/systematic environment
- Clear, structured thinker with a disciplined approach to forming and communicating views
Exposure to adjacent areas such as capital structure, credit, or volatility strategies would be advantageous, though not essential.
Team & platform
- Highly collaborative environment with close interaction across investment, research, and quantitative teams
- Integrated platform structure
- The role feeds directly into senior investment leadership while working closely with broader teams
Location
- London or Paris.
Additional details
The strategy is in its build phase, offering strong upside in terms of influence and long-term growth. Compensation is structured with a long-term orientation, with scope to broaden coverage into adjacent event-driven opportunities over time.
