Compliance & Risk Manager - High-Growth Global Fintech
My client is a rapidly growing global fintech company that is transforming the payments and loyalty landscape through real-time payment infrastructure, embedded rewards solutions, and AI-driven data intelligence. With operations across 26+ markets and significant growth momentum, they are looking to hire a Compliance & Risk Manager to lead their Japan compliance, risk, and regulatory function. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the firm's expansion in Japan while working closely with senior leadership and global stakeholders.
Responsibilities for this Compliance & Risk Manager role
- Lead the compliance, risk management, and regulatory framework for the Japan business.
- Act as the primary liaison with the Financial Services Agency (FSA), Local Finance Bureaus, and relevant regulators.
- Drive licensing and registration processes, including Funds Transfer Service Provider (資金移動業) and Electronic Payment Agency Service Provider (電子決済等代行業) approvals.
- Develop and maintain Japan-specific compliance, AML/CFT, and risk management programs.
- Conduct compliance risk assessments and oversee monitoring, testing, and remediation activities.
- Provide compliance guidance on new products, customer offerings, marketing initiatives, and strategic business projects.
- Oversee AML/CFT controls, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and suspicious transaction reporting obligations.
- Prepare and present compliance and risk reporting to senior management and global stakeholders while promoting a strong compliance culture across the organization.
Requirements for this Compliance & Risk Manager role
- Minimum 7 years of Compliance, Risk, and/or AML/CFT experience within banking, payments, fintech, or other regulated financial services environments.
- Strong knowledge of Japanese financial regulations, including Payment Services Act, Banking Act, AML/CFT requirements, and broader regulatory frameworks.
- Experience engaging with regulators and managing regulatory examinations, audits, or licensing matters.
- Proven ability to interpret complex regulations and implement practical business-focused compliance solutions.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across business functions and senior leadership.
- CAMS, CFCS, or similar certifications would be advantageous.
- Fluency in both Japanese and English is required.
