Research Group Lead - Deep Learning / AI (Amsterdam)
A top tier, research driven quantitative trading firm that is hiring a Research Group Lead to take full ownership of one of its core Deep Learning subgroups.
This is one of the most important and high impact roles within the organisation. As Deep Learning strategies continue to become a central driver of the firm's performance each year, the scope and influence of this role will expand rapidly across markets and asset classes.
The role combines hands on AI research, technical leadership, and direct PnL impact, offering a rare opportunity to shape how advanced AI is applied in production finance at scale.
Responsibilities
- Drive the development of advanced AI models, including foundational models for market data, to predict prices across global financial instruments in highly noisy, non stationary environments
- Own and shape the research agenda: hypothesis generation, experimental design, and rigorous validation
- Hands on team lead responsible for hiring, mentoring, and scaling a high performance Deep Learning research team.
- Build fast, transparent, and impact driven research processes
- Integrate work from multiple researchers into unified, production ready systems
- Remain hands on: coding, model development, and strategy research
- Gradually expand your mandate within the broader Deep Learning function
Ideal Profile
- Experienced Deep Learning researcher with a background in technical leadership
- Expertise in applied, competitive AI domains such as LLMs, reasoning systems, or generative models
- Motivated by real world impact and production deployment, not purely academic output
- Able to maintain high research velocity while fostering a healthy, supportive team culture

- Prior trading exposure is beneficial but not required
Backgrounds of interest
- Academic background from a top tier university: UCL, Oxford, Cambridge, ETH Zurich etc
- Strong publication record or spoken at leading AI/ML conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, or CVPR
- Staff researcher/engineer: Experience in top tier industrial research labs, including backgrounds at Meta (Facebook), Google, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, or similar.
- Prior exposure to HFT / MFT or systematic trading environments is highly valued
