Summary / Objective
Our client is a growing financial services organization specializing in Property & Casualty insurance solutions. The Assistant Controller will support the organization's senior finance leadership in overseeing accounting operations and financial reporting across multiple insurance entities.
This position combines hands‑on execution with high‑level analysis. The ideal candidate brings deep technical accounting experience, strong familiarity with both GAAP and Statutory reporting, and the ability to manage complex reconciliations in a dynamic, evolving environment. The role will also support reinsurance reporting, strengthen internal controls, and contribute to process optimization across the finance function.
Essential Responsibilities
- Manage and review accounting entries for multiple insurance entities, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare, calculate, and record ceded reinsurance activity, including premiums, recoverables, losses, and reinstatements.
- Maintain detailed reconciliations of reinsurance balances and provide supporting analyses for internal and external reporting.
- Compile and analyze statutory financial results by segment, product line, and business unit.
- Prepare quarterly and annual statutory filings, including NAIC schedules and supplemental exhibits.
- Support the preparation and review of GAAP-based financial statements and disclosures.
- Coordinate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities across all reporting entities.
- Partner with auditors, actuaries, and regulatory teams by providing data, documentation, and analytical insights.
- Assist in designing and enhancing internal controls, documentation standards, and accounting workflows.
- Identify and lead process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in financial reporting.
- Provide both tactical accounting support and strategic financial analysis for management reporting and decision-making.

Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience
- Solid experience working with reinsurance accounting and ceded transactions.
- Background in multi-entity accounting and consolidated reporting (insurance industry strongly preferred).
- Proficiency in accounting systems; experience with Workday Financials considered an advantage (other ERP platforms also acceptable).
- Advanced Excel skills, including complex functions and data analysis.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify trends and interpret financial impacts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.
- Demonstrated success working in small teams and entrepreneurial environments.
- Comfort working in a virtual or geographically distributed work environment.

Education & Credentials
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (required).
- CPA certification or active progress toward CPA (strongly preferred).
- 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience within the Property & Casualty insurance sector.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and Statutory reporting requirements.

Position Details
- Status: Full-time
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Additional Hours: Occasional evenings or weekends as needed
