Selby Jennings is partnering with a London market insurer to appoint a Chief Risk Officer (CRO). The agency's Risk function has scaled since inception and is now seeking an executive leader to set the strategic risk agenda, strengthen enterprise-wide risk governance, and ensure robust compliance with Lloyd's and UK regulatory expectations. This is a pivotal leadership role with direct influence on strategy, capital, underwriting, and operational resilience.

The CRO will be accountable for the end‑to‑end risk management framework and its integration with business planning, underwriting strategy, capital management, and performance steering. They will interface with Board, regulators, and market stakeholders, ensuring that risk management delivers high-quality customer and regulatory outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and own the enterprise risk strategy and risk appetite, aligned to business objectives and market cycles.
  • Embed risk management into underwriting, pricing, reserving, capital, reinsurance, investments, and operations.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of the risk management framework (policies, standards, methodologies, and controls).
  • Serve as principal risk liaison for Lloyd's and UK regulators; ensure adherence to PRA/FCA and Lloyd's standards.
  • Oversee the ORSA end‑to‑end, including scenario design, stress & reverse stress testing, production of reports, and Board engagement.

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive risk leadership experience in insurance/reinsurance (Lloyd's market exposure strongly preferred).
  • Deep knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks (PRA/FCA) and Lloyd's requirements.
  • Track record embedding risk in strategic and commercial decisions.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to influence at Board level and lead multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Degree in a quantitative, actuarial, finance, risk, or related discipline.
  • Professional qualifications (FIA/FCII/PRM/FRM) advantageous.
