Position Overview: AVP, Actuarial Pricing
This role leads the Actuarial Pricing team, overseeing daily operations and long-term strategy. The AVP provides insights into profitability across lines of business, states, or segments, and delivers analytical support to underwriting and senior leadership. Responsibilities include conducting in-depth analyses, supporting regulatory matters, mentoring actuarial staff, and enhancing business and actuarial capabilities-all in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Location Note (for NJ candidates):
This position will be based at the upcoming headquarters in Short Hills, NJ or Charlotte, NC. Until the new office opens, the successful candidate may work from the Branchville, NJ location.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise pricing analyses and communicate findings to underwriting and leadership teams.
- Coordinate and monitor projects, adjusting timelines as needed.
- Provide analytical tools and guidance to underwriters to support sound decision-making.
- Lead pricing discussions with regional and senior management, offering insights into pricing trends and profitability.
- Prepare special reports and ad hoc analyses to support business strategy.
- Oversee maintenance and enhancement of pricing models and systems, identifying and implementing process improvements.
- Offer training and share expertise with staff and other departments.
- Stay informed on market trends impacting the property and casualty insurance industry.
Qualifications
Skills & Knowledge
- Advanced actuarial and analytical expertise with strong financial insight.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to train and develop actuarial talent.
- Experience in hiring and retaining skilled actuarial professionals.
Education & Experience
- FCAS designation or near-FCAS status.
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Economics, or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in property and casualty actuarial work.
