Job Title: Accountant

My client is looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accountant to join their growing team in Sarasota, FL. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial information.

As an Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the organization's financial operations by applying GAAP and Statutory accounting principles, preparing and analyzing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and external regulations. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders, contributing to the company's financial integrity and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general accounting functions, including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and analyzing financial data
  • Prepare and review financial, regulatory, and management reports to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and analysis
  • Support the preparation and filing of property tax returns and other informational tax filings
  • Contribute to the accounts payable and payroll processes as needed
  • Monitor changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements, ensuring timely implementation
  • Recommend and implement improvements to accounting processes, internal controls, and financial systems
  • Collaborate with other departments to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives
  • Provide timely and accurate financial data to internal teams, auditors, and regulatory bodies
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives, including system upgrades and process automation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of general ledger accounting experience
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP; familiarity with Statutory accounting is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUP, PivotTables) and financial software systems
  • Experience in the insurance industry, particularly Property & Casualty, is preferred
  • Actively pursuing or holding a CPA, CMA, or MBA is a strong advantage
