Loan Workout Specialist
Position Summary:
The Loan Workout Specialist will be responsible for managing and resolving underperforming or distressed loans within our lending portfolio. This role requires a deep understanding of credit risk, legal industry dynamics, and restructuring strategies. The ideal candidate will work closely with borrowers, legal counsel, and internal stakeholders to develop and execute effective workout plans that preserve capital and maximize recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and monitor the financial health of borrowers showing signs of distress.
- Develop and implement customized workout strategies, including forbearance agreements, restructurings, and collateral enforcement.
- Collaborate with legal counsel to navigate complex legal and regulatory issues related to loan enforcement.
- Negotiate directly with borrowers to restructure loan terms or facilitate settlements.
- Prepare detailed credit memos and recovery forecasts for internal review.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all workout activities and borrower communications.
- Provide strategic input on portfolio risk management and early warning indicators.
- Support litigation or recovery efforts when necessary, including coordination with outside counsel.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field (JD or MBA preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in loan workouts, credit risk, or special assets, preferably within private credit or commercial lending.
- Familiarity with the legal industry and law firm financial structures is highly desirable.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in financial modeling and credit analysis.
- Ability to manage multiple complex cases simultaneously.
