Senior Grain Trader
A leading trading house is seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Grain Trader to join its trading team. This is a senior commercial role with responsibility for managing and expanding a grain trading portfolio across multiple global markets, with a focus on wheat, corn, barley, and soybeans. The successful candidate will leverage deep market knowledge and industry relationships to drive profitability and support the continued growth of the trading platform.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Grain Trader will develop and execute trading strategies across key grain commodities to maximise profitability. The role involves originating and executing physical grain trades, including negotiating contracts with suppliers and end‑users. Ongoing market analysis will be required to identify trends, price movements, and emerging trading opportunities.
The position includes managing and optimising a proprietary trading portfolio with a strong emphasis on risk management and compliance. The trader will build and maintain long‑term relationships with farmers, cooperatives, processors, and end‑users, and work closely with logistics and supply chain teams to ensure efficient trade execution and delivery.
Additional responsibilities include collaborating with internal teams such as risk, finance, and operations to align trading activities, representing the firm at industry events and conferences, and mentoring junior traders on market intelligence, trading strategies, and operational best practices.
Requirements
Candidates should hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agriculture, Economics, Business, or a related field. A minimum of 5-10 years' experience in grain or commodities trading within a reputable trading house is required, along with a proven track record of managing profitable trading portfolios.
Strong knowledge of global grain markets, supply‑demand fundamentals, and pricing dynamics is essential. The role requires excellent negotiation and communication skills, strong analytical and quantitative abilities, and experience using trading and data analysis tools. The successful candidate must be able to thrive in a fast‑paced and demanding market environment and be willing to travel as required. Fluency in English is mandatory, with additional languages considered an advantage.
