About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior E&S Property Underwriter to join our MGA team. The ideal candidate has a strong track record of underwriting complex property risks, deep knowledge of the California market, and the ability to build and maintain broker relationships. This role offers significant autonomy, decision‑making authority, and the opportunity to help shape underwriting strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite and price E&S property risks in accordance with company guidelines and market conditions.
- Evaluate submissions, analyze CAT exposures, review loss history, and determine appropriate terms and pricing.
- Manage a profitable book of business with a focus on growth, portfolio balance, and underwriting discipline.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers across California.
- Monitor market trends, rate movements, capacity changes, and competitive landscape within CA E&S property.
- Collaborate with internal teams (actuarial, catastrophe modeling, operations) to support underwriting decisions.
- Negotiate terms and coverage with brokers while maintaining company profitability targets.
- Contribute to underwriting strategy, appetite refinement, and product development initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to compliance, documentation standards, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of E&S property underwriting experience, with proven success in the California market.
- Strong understanding of CAT‑exposed business, including wildfire, quake, and other regional perils.
- Experience underwriting mid‑market and/or large commercial property accounts.
- Established relationships with key California wholesale brokers (preferred).
- Strong analytical skills, underwriting judgment, and technical understanding of property forms.
- Ability to manage a high volume of submissions and make timely, sound decisions.
- Proficiency with rating systems, modeling tools, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills.
