Statutory Accountant

Candidates must have prior insurance industry experience with statutory reporting experience.

The Statutory Accountant will support the preparation of statutory financial reporting, reinsurance accounting activities, and regulatory filings for a property & casualty insurance organization. This role partners closely with finance leadership, actuaries, reinsurance partners, and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory accounting principles, and timely completion of accounting close processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare quarterly and annual NAIC statutory financial statements and related regulatory filings.
  • Perform statutory accounting activities in accordance with SSAP and insurance regulatory requirements.
  • Manage reinsurance accounting, including treaty reconciliations, recoverables, payables, and related journal entries.
  • Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
  • Record and analyze premium activity, loss reserves, loss adjustment expenses, and ceded reinsurance transactions.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Assist with financial statement preparation, variance analysis, and management reporting.
  • Coordinate with actuaries regarding reserve calculations and financial reporting impacts.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and responding to audit requests.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements and assist with regulatory examinations as needed.
  • Identify accounting issues, recommend process improvements, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Collaborate with finance and operational teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of insurance accounting experience.
  • Strong statutory accounting and NAIC reporting experience.
  • Experience with reinsurance accounting and treaty reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of insurance financial statements, regulatory filings, and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Experience supporting audits and month-end close processes.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
