Senior Underwriter - Inland Marine (Remote)
My client is adding a Senior Inland Marine Underwriter to support the growth of a profitable, specialty Inland Marine portfolio, with primary emphasis on Builder's Risk, Contractor's Equipment, and Motor Truck Cargo.
This is a hands‑on underwriting role for an experienced Inland Marine professional who combines strong technical judgment with a portfolio‑management mindset.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite, manage, and profitably grow an Inland Marine book of business
- Focus on Builder's Risk, Contractor's Equipment, and Motor Truck Cargo, with exposure to related Inland Marine classes
- Maintain discipline around risk selection, pricing, coverage analysis, and rate adequacy
- Evaluate submissions using TIV/NAV analysis, loss history, CAT exposure, risk controls, and portfolio considerations
- Ensure accurate documentation of coverage intent, pricing rationale, terms, endorsements, and compliance requirements
- Partner with brokers and internal stakeholders on new business, renewals, and portfolio optimization
- Monitor book performance metrics and proactively manage appetite, mix, and strategy
- Participate in broker-facing meetings, presentations, and targeted growth initiatives
- Travel limited to moderate, based on territory and broker needs
Ideal Profile
- 5+ years of Inland Marine underwriting experience in a commercial or specialty environment
- Strong technical expertise in Builder's Risk, Contractor's Equipment, and Motor Truck Cargo
- Proven ability to underwrite within delegated authority and program guidelines
- Solid understanding of pricing, coverage interpretation, and loss trends
- Portfolio-focused mindset with attention to profitability and long-term performance
- Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate underwriting decisions to brokers
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams
