Senior C++ Software Engineer Role at a Trading Company

I'm currently working with technology-driven trading firm that is looking to add an experienced C++ Software Engineer to its core infrastructure team.

This is an opportunity to work on the systems that sit at the heart of the business. The team is responsible for building and improving a globally distributed, low-latency platform that handles everything from market data and order routing to risk management. The environment is highly technical, with a strong focus on performance, scalability, and clean engineering.

You'll be working alongside talented engineers and quantitative specialists, solving complex technical challenges where speed, reliability, and efficiency are critical.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build and enhance low latency and high-performance C++ systems where speed, reliability, and scalability are essential.
  • Work on core infrastructure components, including real-time data processing, messaging, networking, and distributed systems.
  • Partner with highly technical teams to design and implement solutions for challenging engineering problems.
  • Drive performance improvements through profiling, optimisation, and hands-on troubleshooting of applications running in Linux-based environments.

Key requirements:

  • At least 7 years of professional C++ development experience including experience with modern C++ and libraries such as STL and Boost.
  • Experience building high-performance systems with demanding latency requirements.
  • Strong understanding of multithreading, concurrency, and hardware/software interactions.
  • Comfortable working close to the operating system, including Linux, networking, socket programming, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience working on complex engineering problems such as real-time data processing, distributed systems, matching engines, compilers, or other performance-critical applications.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical stakeholders.

Nice to have:

  • Experience within trading, financial markets, or another ultra-low-latency environment.
  • Background in industries such as gaming, streaming, telecommunications, or other areas where performance and optimisation are key.
