About the Opportunity
A top-rated property & casualty insurance carrier is seeking an experienced Excess & Surplus (E&S) Underwriter to join its growing specialty insurance platform. This individual will be responsible for underwriting complex commercial risks, building strong broker relationships, and driving profitable growth within the E&S marketplace.

Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, select, price, and manage a portfolio of E&S commercial risks.
- Analyze exposures, loss history, financial statements, and other underwriting information to determine risk acceptability.
- Develop and maintain relationships with retail and wholesale brokerage partners.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, conditions, and coverage structures.
- Achieve profitable growth objectives while maintaining underwriting discipline.
- Monitor portfolio performance and take corrective action when necessary.
- Collaborate with claims, actuarial, risk control, and product teams to support business objectives.
- Travel periodically for broker meetings, agency visits, and industry events.
Qualifications
- Minimum 4+ years of commercial underwriting experience, preferably within the E&S market.
- Strong understanding of commercial lines coverages and underwriting principles.
- Experience handling middle market and/or complex commercial risks.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to exercise sound underwriting judgment and make independent decisions.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience underwriting casualty, property, construction, transportation, or specialty lines business.
- Established relationships within the wholesale brokerage community.
- CPCU, AU, ARM, or other industry designations.
