Selby Jennings is partnering with a highly regarded ~$10bn multi-strategy hedge fund seeking to appoint a Head of Equity Capital Markets (ECM) in New York. This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a strategically important function from the ground up within a well-capitalized and rapidly growing investment platform.

The firm is looking to significantly enhance its access to primary market opportunities, IPO allocations, secondary offerings, block trades, and broader capital markets intelligence. As such, they are seeking a senior ECM professional with an exceptional industry network and a proven ability to cultivate high-value relationships across investment banks, corporate issuers, sponsors, and market participants.

The Opportunity

This is a highly visible role with direct exposure to senior leadership and portfolio managers across the platform. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing the firm's ECM coverage effort, positioning the fund as a preferred investor in capital markets transactions, and creating a differentiated access and relationship framework across the Street.

The role offers the unique chance to build an institutional ECM capability from infancy while working alongside some of the industry's most accomplished investment professionals.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and lead the firm's Equity Capital Markets function.
• Develop and deepen strategic relationships with ECM desks, syndicate teams, corporate access professionals, and senior bankers globally.
• Enhance the firm's access to IPOs, follow-on offerings, convertibles, block trades, accelerated bookbuilds, and other capital markets opportunities.
• Act as the primary point of contact across the sell-side ECM community.
• Partner closely with portfolio managers and analysts to identify and evaluate relevant transaction opportunities.
• Provide market intelligence and insights on upcoming issuance pipelines, corporate transactions, and capital markets activity.
• Drive the firm's visibility and profile across the broader equity capital markets ecosystem.
• Establish scalable processes and infrastructure to support continued growth of the platform's primary market capabilities.

Candidate Profile

• Extensive experience within Equity Capital Markets, Equity Syndicate, Corporate Access, or a closely related capital markets function.
• Deep, established relationships across senior ECM and syndicate teams at leading global investment banks.
• Demonstrable track record of originating valuable opportunities and securing access within highly competitive transactions.
• Strong understanding of equity issuance, IPO processes, secondary offerings, block trades, and capital markets dynamics.
• Commercially minded with the ability to build and expand strategic external relationships.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and excited by the opportunity to create a function from the ground up.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with senior investment professionals and corporate executives.
