Position Overview

The Director of Finance will serve as a key member of the leadership team, overseeing all aspects of financial management, accounting, forecasting, reporting, cash flow, and financial planning. Reporting directly to the CEO, this individual will provide strategic financial guidance, drive operational efficiency, strengthen financial controls, and support informed decision-making across the organization.

This position is ideal for a finance leader who enjoys combining strategic planning with hands-on financial leadership in a fast-paced, project-based environment.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and overall financial strategy.
  • Oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
  • Monitor company performance through analysis of revenue, expenses, profitability, project margins, and cash flow.
  • Develop financial models, forecasts, scenario analyses, and business cases to support strategic initiatives.
  • Provide executive leadership with actionable insights regarding financial performance, risks, and growth opportunities.
  • Conduct variance analysis and recommend solutions to improve operational and financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and internal financial policies.
  • Lead annual audits and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, banks, tax advisors, and financial institutions.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, financial policies, and governance procedures to mitigate risk and improve reporting accuracy.
  • Partner with business leaders to support budgeting, accountability, and resource allocation decisions.
  • Analyze departmental and project-level financial results to identify opportunities for increased profitability and cost management.
  • Develop and monitor key financial metrics and performance indicators across the organization.
  • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and financing activities.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on process optimization, reporting enhancements, and operational scalability.
  • Recruit, mentor, develop, and lead a high-performing finance and accounting team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA, MBA, or other advanced financial credential preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated experience leading accounting and finance teams in a growth-oriented environment.
  • Proven expertise in financial planning & analysis (FP&A), cash flow management, and business performance analysis.
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership on strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with financial systems and reporting tools.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex financial information into business insights.
  • Prior experience within engineering, consulting, professional services, construction, or other project-based industries preferred.
