About the Opportunity
A leading investment-focused technology organization is modernizing the way database services are delivered across the business. The team is building an engineering-driven database platform centered around automation, infrastructure-as-code principles, and standardized deployment practices. The goal is to eliminate manual administration through repeatable, scalable processes that support enterprise database environments.
This role is ideal for an engineer who believes database infrastructure should be managed with the same rigor as application development, leveraging version control, automated deployments, and declarative configuration management across modern data platforms.
What You'll Be Doing
- Build and maintain highly automated database solutions spanning SQL Server and Snowflake environments.
- Develop repeatable provisioning and operational workflows using Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
- Drive adoption of database deployment frameworks that support version-controlled, auditable, and automated schema changes.
- Implement controls that eliminate configuration drift and ensure consistency across all environments.
- Design resilient database architectures supporting availability, reliability, and operational scalability.
- Utilize Terraform to provision and manage database-related infrastructure resources.
- Integrate database deployment processes into CI/CD pipelines and GitOps-based operating models.
- Develop monitoring, alerting, and observability capabilities across the database ecosystem.
- Create tooling and migration frameworks that support platform adoption and modernization initiatives.
- Contribute to security, governance, and self-service capabilities that enable users to operate efficiently while maintaining platform standards.
Required Experience
- Extensive experience administering and engineering Microsoft SQL Server environments, including performance optimization, indexing strategies, security, replication, and high-availability solutions.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Snowflake, including data architecture, access controls, ingestion pipelines, performance optimization, and cost management.
- Proven experience using Terraform to automate infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management.
- Demonstrated success implementing database deployment methodologies using tools such as Flyway, Liquibase, Atlas, or similar solutions.
- Deep understanding of version-controlled database development, migration management, environment promotion, and drift prevention.
- Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell and/or Python. Experience with Go is beneficial.
- Experience integrating database workflows into modern DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with Git-based development and automation-first operational models.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting Redis technologies, including caching and messaging workloads.
- Exposure to Kubernetes and container orchestration concepts, particularly around stateful applications.
- Knowledge of data lakehouse architectures and modern data platform technologies.
- Experience with Apache Iceberg, Trino, Airflow, and dbt.
- Familiarity with analytical data stores such as ClickHouse.
- Experience implementing observability solutions utilizing tools like Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, and OpenTelemetry.
- Ability to leverage business intelligence and reporting platforms for data visualization and analysis.
What Makes Someone Successful in This Role
- Strong conviction that database management should be automated, repeatable, and governed through code.
- A platform engineering mindset focused on scalability, standardization, and operational excellence.
- Ability to work across infrastructure, databases, automation tooling, and user-facing platform capabilities.
- Passion for modernizing traditional database operations through engineering-led solutions.
- Curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to continuously evaluate and adopt emerging technologies.
This position offers the opportunity to help shape a modern database platform where automation, infrastructure-as-code, and engineering best practices are central to every aspect of database delivery and operations.
