Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Employee Benefits Account Manager to support a portfolio of mid to large market employer clients. This individual will serve as a key day-to-day contact while partnering closely with Producers and Account Executives to deliver a high level of strategic and technical benefits consulting.

The ideal candidate has strong experience managing complex employee benefits programs, understands both fully insured and self-funded arrangements, and is comfortable coordinating renewals, implementations, carrier negotiations, compliance, and ongoing client service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day servicing of a portfolio of mid to large market employee benefits clients.
  • Develop strong relationships with HR, benefits, and finance contacts and serve as a trusted resource on benefits-related issues.
  • Partner with Producers and Account Executives on renewal strategy, plan design, funding alternatives, and client retention.
  • Manage the annual renewal and marketing process, including gathering data, preparing submissions, reviewing carrier proposals, and developing client-facing comparisons.
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers, TPAs, pharmacy benefit managers, stop-loss carriers, and other benefits vendors.
  • Support clients with fully insured and self-funded medical plans, as well as dental, vision, life, disability, and voluntary benefits.
  • Review benefits contracts, plan documents, summaries, and communications for accuracy.
  • Coordinate new client implementations, carrier transitions, open enrollment, and plan changes.
  • Assist with claims, eligibility, billing, enrollment, and escalated service issues.
  • Maintain awareness of employee benefits compliance requirements and coordinate with appropriate compliance resources.
  • Prepare for and participate in client meetings, renewal presentations, stewardship meetings, and open enrollment meetings.
  • Collaborate with internal analysts, benefit specialists, and service teams to ensure client deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
  • Identify opportunities to improve clients' benefit programs, employee experience, and overall cost management.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of employee benefits brokerage, consulting, or account management experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting mid to large market employer groups.
  • Strong knowledge of medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and ancillary benefit programs.
  • Experience with self-funded health plans and stop-loss strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex renewals and carrier/vendor relationships.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple client priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and client-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with HR and benefits professionals while communicating effectively with senior leadership.
  • California Life & Health insurance license preferred or ability to obtain within an agreed-upon timeframe.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and benefits/account management platforms.

What Our Client Is Looking For

Our client is looking for someone who combines strong technical benefits knowledge with excellent client management skills. This person should be proactive, anticipate client needs, take ownership of the renewal and service process, and be comfortable supporting sophisticated employers with complex benefit programs.

The right candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy being part of an organization that takes a consultative approach to employee benefits rather than simply managing transactions and renewals.
