Vice President, Collateral Management

Role Summary

This is a newly created leadership position responsible for establishing and leading the Group's collateral management function across OTC derivatives, fixed income, and related financing activities. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the firm's OTC derivatives business expansion and Type 11 licensing initiative, ensuring robust collateral controls, regulatory compliance, and effective counterparty risk management. This individual will be responsible for building the team, implementing infrastructure and operating models, and partnering closely with Trading, Risk, Treasury, Finance, Legal, Compliance, and Technology teams.

Key Responsibilities

Collateral & Margin Management

  • Lead the end-to-end collateral management process for OTC derivatives and related products.
  • Oversee daily margin calculation, margin call issuance, dispute management, collateral settlement, and reconciliation activities.
  • Develop and implement collateral management policies, procedures, and operating controls.
  • Monitor collateral movements, cash and non-cash collateral balances, and ensure accurate record-keeping across systems.
  • Manage variation margin and initial margin processes in accordance with regulatory and industry requirements.
  • Review collateral adequacy and proactively identify potential shortfalls or operational risks.

Counterparty & Credit Risk Management

  • Partner closely with Risk Management to monitor counterparty exposure and emerging credit risks.
  • Support margin call decisions and escalation processes for counterparties experiencing financial deterioration or market stress.
  • Maintain collateral agreements and ensure operational readiness for new and existing counterparties.
  • Oversee counterparty onboarding, periodic reviews, and ongoing maintenance of counterparty information.

Regulatory & Business Build-Out

  • Lead the implementation of collateral management infrastructure, including workflow design, operating procedures, and system enhancements.
  • Support the firm's compliance with SFC OTC derivatives regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Participate in the development and launch of new OTC derivatives, fixed income, and financing products.
  • Ensure collateral management processes are scalable and aligned with business growth objectives.
  • Liaise with regulators, auditors, and internal control functions when required.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Drive automation initiatives and system implementation projects, including collateral management platforms and workflow tools.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data maintenance across collateral management systems.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen controls, and reduce manual processes.
  • Support business and user acceptance testing for new products, systems, and regulatory changes.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and lead a high-performing collateral management team.
  • Establish clear operating standards, performance metrics, and governance frameworks.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between Front Office, Operations, Risk, Treasury, Finance, and Technology teams on collateral-related matters.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members while fostering a collaborative working environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • 8-15 years of experience in collateral management, margin operations, prime brokerage, OTC derivatives operations, securities financing, or related functions.
  • Strong knowledge of OTC derivatives lifecycle, collateral management practices, and counterparty credit risk.
  • Experience managing margin calls for derivative products, financing transactions, or structured products.
  • Understanding of SFC regulatory requirements relating to OTC derivatives is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience leading teams and driving infrastructure or process build-out initiatives.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively across Front Office, Risk, Treasury, Operations, and Technology teams.
  • Advanced Excel skills; knowledge of VBA, Python, SQL, or data analytics tools would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin).
