Head of Technology
A Connecticut hedge fund is seeking a Founding Software Engineer / Head of Technology to build and own the firm's technology function from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to step into a high-autonomy role with direct access to senior leadership, shaping how technology supports and enhances the investment process across a $5B+ platform.
You'll play a central role in modernizing a fragmented technology stack, reducing reliance on external vendors, and building a cohesive internal platform across data, infrastructure, and applications. The firm has already invested in forward-deployed engineering resources, and is now looking to internalize that capability and establish long-term ownership of critical systems.
As a founding technical leader, you will:
- Own and evolve the firm's end-to-end technology strategy, architecture, and roadmap
- Evaluate and rationalize existing systems, vendors, and consultant-built platforms
- Design and build scalable internal systems supporting research, trading, risk, and reporting workflows
- Develop data pipelines and platforms that improve accessibility, quality, and usability of firm-wide data
- Drive workflow automation across operations, compliance, and investor reporting
- Implement practical AI use cases (e.g., research copilots, document analysis, internal tools)
- Partner directly with investment, trading, and business teams to translate needs into technical solutions
You're a strong match if you bring:
- 8-10+ years of experience building and shipping production systems
- Strong programming skills in Python (or similar) with the ability to design, build, and scale systems end-to-end
- Experience with data pipelines, APIs, distributed systems, and modern data architectures
- Strong understanding of databases and data modeling (SQL and beyond)
- Experience working in complex, fast-paced environments with high ownership
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Familiarity with modern AI tools and workflows (LLMs, copilots, etc.)
- Strong judgment around architecture, prioritization, and build vs buy tradeoffs
- The ability to operate both hands-on technically and as a strategic partner to senior stakeholders
