Financial Accountant

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join a growing finance team in Amsterdam. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining accounting records, supporting statutory compliance, and delivering high-quality financial information across multiple European legal entities.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, statutory reporting, tax compliance, audit coordination, and IFRS reporting activities. Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes for multiple European legal entities.
• Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with IFRS and local GAAP requirements.
• Process company-specific accounting adjustments and IFRS journal entries.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records and reporting.
• Prepare and maintain supporting schedules for reporting and audit purposes.
• Upload financial data into group consolidation packages and validate reporting outputs.
• Support preparation of annual statutory accounts.

General Ledger Accounting

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts in accordance with company policies.
• Post and review journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and reclassifications.
• Process depreciation, fixed asset accounting, and asset revaluations.
• Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Review detailed trial balances and investigate discrepancies.
• Ensure intercompany balances are reconciled and eliminated accurately.

Statutory & Regulatory Compliance

• Prepare annual statutory financial statements for relevant legal entities.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS and local accounting regulations.
• Support corporate income tax calculations and provisions.
• Assist with VAT filings and indirect tax compliance.
• Monitor regulatory requirements and implement necessary accounting updates.

Audit Coordination

• Act as a key contact for external auditors.
• Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
• Respond to auditor requests and ensure timely completion of audit procedures.
• Support the implementation of audit recommendations and process improvements.

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and controls.
• Assist with automation and standardization initiatives across entities.
• Contribute to finance transformation and efficiency projects.
• Support the implementation of best practices across the accounting function.

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, RA, ACA, or equivalent is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of Financial Accounting experience within an international environment.
• Strong understanding of IFRS and local European GAAP frameworks.
• Experience managing multiple legal entities and complex accounting structures.
• Experience preparing statutory accounts and supporting external audits.
• Strong experience with general ledger accounting and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of VAT compliance and corporate tax processes.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience working with ERP and accounting systems.

Preferred Experience

• Exposure to alternative investments, private equity, real estate, hedge funds, or asset management environments.
• Experience with real estate accounting and/or fixed asset accounting.
• Experience within multinational or international corporate structures.
• Background in handling multi-country accounting activities across Europe.

Languages

• Fluent Dutch and English are required.
• Additional European language skills such as French, German, or Spanish are highly advantageous.
