⭐ Middle Office Analyst - Physical Natural Gas (Europe)

Are you an experienced Middle Office professional with a deep understanding of the European physical natural gas market?
This is an exceptional opportunity to step into a high‑impact, trader‑facing role supporting a fast‑moving physical gas portfolio across European hubs, storages and transport systems.
You'll sit at the centre of commercial, operational and risk‑related activity - ensuring accurate P&L, strong controls and seamless interaction between Trading, Finance, Operations and Scheduling teams.
P&L & Reporting
- Produce daily/weekly/monthly P&L for physical gas portfolios (flows, balancing, transport, storage).
- Break down key drivers: realised vs unrealised, accruals, provisions, market moves, FX, fees and constraints.
- Validate trade capture & market data (curves, indices, FX) and resolve discrepancies with Trading & IT.
- Support month‑end with reconciliations, journals, commentary packs and audit‑ready documentation.
Storage, Nominations & Operational Support
- Support the capture and reconciliation of storage fees, optionality and commercials.
- Assist with resolving storage disputes and validating operator statements.
- Provide operational insight to ensure accurate nomination and storage‑related reporting.
Balancing & Imbalance Management
- Produce imbalance reporting across EU hubs/TSOs.
- Perform root‑cause analysis and escalate issues to Trading/Scheduling where needed.
Invoicing, Settlements & Dispute Resolution
- Manage end‑to‑end invoicing for physical gas deliveries, verifying:
▪ volumes
▪ price/index formulas
▪ averaging windows
▪ FX
▪ fees, shaping, losses - Reconcile counterparty statements and resolve breaks.
- Provide clear operational evidence to support credit and collections teams.
Data, Controls & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain high‑quality reference data (points, hubs, TSOs, units, calendars, VAT/tax fields).
- Build and enhance tools using Excel/VBA, Power Query, SQL or Python depending on skillset.
- Strengthen controls, streamline processes and contribute to automation initiatives.
You will thrive in this role if you bring:
✅ Experience in European physical natural gas operations / middle office
✅ Strong understanding of the physical gas life-cycle (flows, nominations, storage, balancing)
✅ Familiarity with storage contract mechanics
✅ Confidence analysing and explaining P&L attribution
✅ Experience with ETRM systems (Endur/Allegro/Trayport beneficial)
✅ Strong Excel skills (pivots, lookups, VBA is an advantage)
✅ Excellent attention to detail and analytical ability
✅ Clear communication skills - able to provide concise commentary to traders & finance
✅ Ability to manage daily reporting deadlines and cross‑functional stakeholders
