Cost Accountant Qualifications:

-need 2+ years of cost accounting experience

-really good hands on application of cost accounting principles

-some manufacturing experience would be preferred

Cost Accountant Responsibilities:

1. Cost Analysis & Reporting

• Analyze manufacturing costs including labor, materials, and overhead.
• Prepare detailed cost reports and variance analyses.
• Monitor cost trends and identify areas for cost reduction.

2. Inventory Valuation

• Maintain accurate records of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
• Ensure proper valuation of inventory using methods like FIFO, LIFO, or weighted average.
• Reconcile physical inventory with accounting records.

3. Budgeting & Forecasting

• Assist in preparing annual budgets and forecasts for manufacturing operations.
• Compare actual costs to budgeted costs and explain variances.
• Support strategic planning with cost projections.

4. Standard Cost Development

• Establish and update standard costs for products and processes.
• Work with production and engineering teams to ensure standards reflect current operations.

5. Cost Control & Efficiency

• Identify inefficiencies in production and suggest improvements.
• Monitor waste, scrap, and rework costs.
• Support lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

6. Financial Compliance & Audits

• Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.
• Support internal and external audits related to manufacturing costs.

7. ERP & Systems Management

• Use ERP systems (like SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) to track and report costs.
• Collaborate with IT and operations to improve cost tracking systems.
