Role: Legal Counsel
Reporting to: Associate General Counsel
Location: London, UK
I have been engaged by a leading global bank to assist with their search for Legal Counsel in London. In this role you will be responsible for providing legal and regulatory advice on products, strategies and policies. The ideal candidate will work to achieve organizational goals while minimizing legal risk.
The Role:
- Advising the Capital Markets leadership team and key stakeholders on legal, regulatory matters for the UK and European market
- Making recommendations on strategies and initiatives, based on an in-depth understanding of the business/group
- Being the primary subject matter expert for internal/external stakeholders, in particular on equity capital markets transactions, debt capital markets transactions and regulatory affairs
- Participating in the design of legal advice strategies & approaches for business unit activity
- Ensuring compliance with internal policies & procedures
- Identifying risks and implementing appropriate actions to mitigate them
- Resolving daily issues and/or escalating with appropriate analysis and/or recommendations for improvement
The Candidate
- A university graduate or equivalent (LLB or equivalent)
- UK Qualified lawyer
- Minimum of 2 years' post-qualification private practice or in-house experience
- Recent experience in the UK with ideally a magic- or silver-circle, or white-shoe, law firm, or in an in-house legal counsel role within a major financial institution
- A background in securities, corporate finance, capital markets and banking law including a solid grounding in the Listing Rules, Prospectus Rules, AIM Rules and the UK Takeover Code.
- Experience and knowledge of UK and EEA legislation Skills
- A logical, practical and consultative approach to work
- Strong attention to detail and the ability meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- An effective communicator both written and oral
