This leadership position oversees the daily operations of a specialized underwriting unit focused on healthcare professional liability. The manager will guide a team of underwriters, ensure adherence to underwriting standards, and contribute to strategic initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and profitability. The role involves close collaboration with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of underwriters, providing training, mentorship, and performance feedback.
- Review underwriting referrals and provide guidance on complex risks and coverage decisions.
- Analyze claims and loss trends to recommend adjustments to rates and coverage.
- Oversee the evaluation of new and renewal applications, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines.
- Approve special policy conditions, negotiate commissions, and create custom endorsements as needed.
- Design and implement operational policies and procedures to improve efficiency and meet reporting requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to support business development.
- Serve as the primary contact for technology-related initiatives within the underwriting unit.

Qualifications
- Professional designation such as RPLU, CPCU, AU, or equivalent experience in specialty insurance

- Advanced knowledge of underwriting principles and regulatory requirements
- Strong organizational, analytical, and multitasking abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
- Ability to stay current with industry trends and legal developments
