Underwriting Manager
On behalf of a leading national P&C carrier with a strong footprint across multiple U.S. markets, we are recruiting for an experienced Underwriting Manager to join their Charlotte branch. This is a high-impact leadership role focused on managing an underwriting book and a team of underwriters, and driving strategic growth through agency partnerships. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement of 3 days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise daily underwriting activities, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with company standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Provide coaching, training, and performance evaluations for underwriting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Underwrite complex or high-value risks, offering technical guidance and support to the team.
- Conduct underwriting file reviews to maintain quality and consistency across submissions.
- Collaborate with branch leadership on strategic initiatives and operational enhancements.
- Make informed decisions on new business, renewals, and policy modifications, with a strong grasp of coverage forms, pricing strategies, and risk assessment.
- Monitor and respond to exposure changes during the policy period, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines.
- Manage agency relationships, including appointments, performance reviews, and growth strategies.
- Analyze agency metrics such as loss ratios, book composition, and profitability to guide business decisions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of commercial underwriting experience, with at least 2 years of mentoring experience, but ideally management.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex underwriting decisions.
- Familiarity with industry-standard coverage forms and rating tools.
