Job Title: Director, Tax
Location: Los Angeles
Schedule: Hybrid (4 days in-office, 1 day remote)

Position Overview

A leading media and entertainment company is seeking a Director of Tax to oversee domestic income tax compliance, provision, and planning. This role will be responsible for managing corporate and partnership tax filings, supporting quarterly and annual tax provision processes, and advising on tax implications of business operations. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented leader with deep technical expertise and strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review federal, state, and local income tax returns for corporate and partnership entities in accordance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
  • Oversee quarterly estimated tax payments and extensions, ensuring timely and accurate filings.
  • Review interim and year-end tax provisions, with a focus on current taxable income and deferred tax balances under ASC 740.
  • Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to gather and analyze financial data for assigned business units.
  • Document tax calculations, assumptions, and conclusions to support filings and forecasts.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the operational and financial structure of assigned business divisions.
  • Respond to tax notices and inquiries, including direct communication with taxing authorities.
  • Manage and mentor tax team members and external consultants on assigned projects.
  • Provide tax support to corporate and operating groups across the organization.
  • Assist with income tax audits, planning initiatives, and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; major in Accounting preferred.
  • 10+ years of domestic income tax compliance experience.
  • Strong understanding of corporate and partnership income tax principles.
  • Solid grasp of ASC 740 and basic tax accounting concepts.
  • Excellent tax technical research and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, logical formulas).
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a hybrid or remote setting.
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
