About the Opportunity

A growing health insurance organization is seeking a Statutory Reporting Manager to lead statutory financial reporting, regulatory filings, and related compliance activities across multiple regulated insurance entities.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced insurance accounting professional with deep expertise in NAIC statutory reporting, health plan accounting, and regulatory compliance. The role will partner closely with finance leadership, actuarial, audit, and regulatory stakeholders while overseeing a small team and driving process improvements across the reporting function.

Position Summary

The Statutory Reporting Manager will own the quarterly and annual statutory reporting process, including financial statement preparation, regulatory filings, capital reporting, and audit support. This individual will serve as a key technical resource on statutory accounting matters and help ensure compliance with applicable insurance regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with proven leadership experience and the ability to navigate a complex, multi-entity insurance environment.

Key Responsibilities

Statutory Reporting & Regulatory Filings

  • Lead the preparation and filing of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements for multiple insurance entities.
  • Coordinate preparation of supporting schedules, disclosures, and regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with NAIC statutory accounting principles and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain documentation supporting statutory reporting processes and controls.

Financial Analysis & Capital Reporting

  • Perform capital adequacy and Risk-Based Capital (RBC) analyses.
  • Support financial forecasting and surplus monitoring activities.
  • Analyze regulatory reporting impacts and communicate findings to leadership.
  • Assist with complex accounting research and technical reporting matters.

Audit & Regulatory Compliance

  • Serve as a primary contact for external auditors and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate audit requests, examinations, and financial reporting inquiries.
  • Prepare supporting documentation and management responses for regulators and auditors.
  • Assist with maintaining a strong internal control environment.

Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Manage, mentor, and develop members of the statutory reporting team.
  • Establish reporting calendars, review processes, and quality control procedures.
  • Drive enhancements to reporting processes, systems, and controls.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Accounting, Finance, Actuarial, Compliance, and Operations teams.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 7+ years of insurance accounting, statutory reporting, or regulatory reporting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of NAIC statutory accounting principles and insurance regulatory requirements.
  • Prior experience preparing annual and quarterly statutory financial statements.
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory examinations.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.

Preferred

  • CPA designation.
  • Experience supporting multiple insurance entities or jurisdictions.
  • Background in health insurance, managed care, or other regulated insurance environments.
  • Experience with Risk-Based Capital (RBC), regulatory filings, and financial statement disclosures.
  • Familiarity with insurance reporting software and ERP platforms.
