Overview
We are working with a highly regarded, growing hedge fund looking to add a Senior Merger Arbitrage Analyst to help scale and institutionalise a dedicated event-driven strategy.
This is a high-impact hire, working directly with senior portfolio managers to drive idea generation, underwriting, and portfolio construction across a full merger arbitrage mandate.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate and analyse merger arbitrage opportunities across global markets (public M&A, takeovers, special situations)
- Build and maintain detailed deal models (probability-weighted returns, downside scenarios, timing)
- Assess deal risk factors including regulatory, financing, shareholder, and structural considerations
- Monitor live positions, track catalysts, and update investment theses dynamically
- Partner closely with the PM on position sizing, risk management, and portfolio construction
- Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of the strategy, including process improvement and idea sourcing frameworks
- Engage with sell-side, legal advisors, and expert networks to deepen edge on situations
Requirements
- 5+ years' experience in:
- Investment Banking (M&A), or
- Equity Research with event-driven / special situations focus, or
- Hedge fund / proprietary trading environment
- Strong track record of working on or covering M&A-driven situations / catalysts
- Advanced financial modelling skills with a focus on scenario analysis
- Deep understanding of deal dynamics and event risk
- Demonstrated ability to generate high-conviction investment ideas
- Comfortable working in a lean, high-performance team with direct exposure to decision-making
