Junior VP - Risk & Controls Manager

Key Responsibilities


Risk & Controls Management


* Act as a First Line of Defence partner to Front Office businesses, supporting Trading, Sales, Capital Markets and related business functions.
* Ensure key operational and non-financial risks are identified, assessed, managed, and appropriately controlled.
* Embed and monitor adherence to NatWest Markets' Risk Management Framework and associated control standards.
* Review, challenge and enhance existing controls to ensure regulatory and operational effectiveness.
* Support risk assessments, control testing, issue remediation, and risk event investigations.


Business Partnership


* Build strong relationships with Trading, Sales, Capital Markets, Treasury and Business Management stakeholders.
* Develop an in-depth understanding of business activities, trading mandates, booking models, pricing processes, trade lifecycle controls, and front-to-back operating models.
* Act as a trusted advisor to the business, helping stakeholders understand risk implications and implement practical solutions.
* Support the implementation of regulatory and business-driven change initiatives.


Operational Risk & Regulatory Oversight


* Monitor and oversee a broad range of non-financial risks including operational risk, conduct risk, market abuse, information security, technology risk, data risk, and AI-related risks.
* Support responses to regulatory requirements and supervisory expectations across European regulatory environments.
* Ensure policies issued by the Second Line are effectively interpreted, implemented, and embedded within business operations.
* Contribute to risk reporting, governance forums, and stakeholder communications.


Project & Change Delivery


* Partner with Senior Vice Presidents to deliver strategic risk and control initiatives.
* Manage workstreams against defined milestones, deadlines and regulatory commitments.
* Drive continuous improvement across reporting, controls, governance and operational processes.
* Leverage Generative AI and technology solutions to improve reporting efficiency, control effectiveness and management information capabilities.


Reporting & Analytics


* Produce and enhance risk reporting and management information for senior stakeholders.
* Develop data-driven insights to identify trends, emerging risks and control weaknesses.
* Utilise advanced Excel and business intelligence tools to automate and improve reporting processes.


Candidate Profile


Essential Experience


* 5-10 years of experience within First Line Risk & Controls, Operational Risk, Product Control, Middle Office, COO, Business Management, Risk Assurance or a related financial markets environment.
* Strong understanding of financial markets products and front-office activities, including fixed income, derivatives, repos, securities, capital markets, treasury products or related asset classes.
* Experience working closely with Front Office stakeholders within a banking, investment banking, financial markets, broker-dealer, or trading environment.
* Knowledge of the trade lifecycle, pricing methodologies, booking models, trade settlements and front-to-back operational processes.
* Hands-on experience implementing and embedding risk frameworks, controls, policies and governance requirements.


Technical Skills


* Advanced Excel skills are essential.
* Experience with Power BI, Tableau or similar reporting and visualisation tools.
* Strong interest in Generative AI and practical applications of AI-driven solutions within reporting, controls and operational efficiency initiatives.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
