Head of Internal Audit

Role Overview

A leading asset manager is looking for a Head of Internal Audit who will lead the internal audit function for the Luxembourg-based asset management entities. This role is critical in providing independent assurance to senior management and the board on the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes. The successful candidate will oversee the execution of the audit plan, contribute to strategic risk assessments, and ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Audit Leadership

• Lead the development and execution of the annual audit plan based on comprehensive risk assessments.
• Provide strategic insights and recommendations to senior leadership on internal control enhancements and risk mitigation.
• Ensure audit activities are aligned with business objectives and regulatory expectations.

Audit Execution & Oversight

• Oversee the planning, scoping, and delivery of complex audit engagements.
• Ensure high-quality audit documentation, reporting, and follow-up on corrective actions.
• Make sound professional judgments and escalate significant issues as appropriate.

Risk & Control Advisory

• Participate in business transformation and governance initiatives, offering risk and control advisory.
• Monitor industry developments and assess their impact on internal controls and business operations.
• Recommend updates to policies and procedures to strengthen the internal control environment.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Maintain strong relationships with external auditors and other assurance functions.
• Collaborate with compliance, risk, and legal teams to ensure a coordinated approach to audit and assurance.
• Report regularly to the Group Head of Audit and relevant governance bodies.

Qualifications & Experience

• Advanced degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Engineering.
• Minimum of 10 years' experience in internal or external audit within asset management or banking.
• Strong technical knowledge of asset management operations and internal control frameworks.
• In-depth understanding of Luxembourg regulatory requirements.
• Fluency in English and Italian is essential; additional languages such as French or German are a plus.
• Professional certifications (e.g., CIA, ACCA, CISA, CFE) are highly desirable.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities, including report writing.
• Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
• High level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to continuous learning.
