Assistant Controller

My client, a well-established pharmaceutical company based in Bedford, MA, is actively seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join their growing finance team. This is a high-impact role that will be instrumental in overseeing and optimizing the company's accounting operations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in accounting, leadership experience, and a passion for working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment within the life sciences sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead the monthly and quarterly financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all reporting deliverables.
  • Facilitate and lead close meetings, providing insights and updates to senior leadership.
  • Oversee operational accounting activities across multiple functions, including payroll, procure-to-pay, stock compensation, fixed assets, and inventory.
  • Supervise a team of 3-5 direct reports and provide guidance to an additional 3-5 indirect reports, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with external auditors to support audits and ensure compliance with all regulatory and internal control requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust accounting policies and procedures to support a SOX-compliant environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with a foundation in public accounting.
  • Proven track record of managing efficient accounting operations in a SOX-regulated environment.
  • Prior experience in the life sciences, pharmaceutical, or biotech industry is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
