Global Tech/Industrials OR Consumer Equity Specialist
Selby Jennings has partnered with a newly established equity L/S hedge fund based in Hong Kong. The CIO brings a proven track record of success across sectors, employing diverse investment strategies. He has consistently demonstrated the ability to generate alpha from both long and short positions with strong conviction. The fund also aims to integrate macroeconomic research by bringing a dedicated macroeconomist on board to analyze global economic trends and policy developments.
They are currently seeking a Global Tech/Industrials (semis, industrial tech, and software) or Global Consumer (staples, discretionary, luxury, and internet-related consumer businesses) specialist to join the team in Hong Kong.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth, bottom-up research on Tech or Consumer names across both developed and emerging markets
- Develop and maintain detailed financial models and investment theses across various sub-sectors
- Identify long-term structural changes and emerging trends through direct industry engagement and proprietary research
- Build and sustain a robust network of global industry contacts, including company management, suppliers, consultants, and domain experts
- Collaborate closely with the investment team to support a cohesive and dynamic investment strategy
- Monitor macroeconomic developments and trends that influence key markets
- Apply a flexible, contrarian mindset to challenge consensus views and uncover overlooked opportunities
- Demonstrate strong short-selling acumen by identifying overvalued companies, weakening fundamentals, or flawed business models, with a focus on timing, risk management, and catalysts
Requirements
- At least 5+ years of relevant experience in buy-side equity research, investment analysis, or similar roles, preferably with global exposure for the relevant sector
- Proven ability to generate unique insights and translate them into actionable investment ideas
- Strong network and ability to access expert insights across regions
- Self-driven, independent thinker with a collaborative approach
- Fluent in English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to write clearly, think critically, and engage in constructive debate
