Generalist Debt Underwriting Associate
About The Role:
The client is a data-driven private equity fund manager that invests in distressed debt secured by commercial real estate. We are seeking to add an Investment Associate to the team based in our New York City office. The Associate will participate in the evaluation, underwriting, due diligence, and transaction closing of new investment opportunities, as well as the analysis of existing investments. This position will have high visibility and direct exposure to the Investment Committee.
What You'll Do:
- Underwrite and price nonperforming, subperforming, and performing loans and loan portfolios
- Lead due diligence process and facilitate investment closings
- Review litigation and legal provisions in loan documents and incorporate them into modeling and pricing
- Value all CRE asset classes in the New York metro area
- Write investment memoranda and present opportunities to the Investment Committee
- Develop scenario analyses and build fund models
- Collaborate with Sourcing, Asset Management, Property Management, Data Strategy, and Legal teams to analyze existing investments and optimize outcomes
- Assist in the creation of agentic AI systems that improve underwriting and asset management workflows
We're Looking For:
- Four to six years of CRE underwriting experience, including strong Excel, Argus, and general financial modeling skills
- Experience with loan data tapes, portfolio-level analysis, scenario/stress testing, and partnership waterfalls
- Strong formal writing skills, ability to synthesize complex analysis into clear investment memoranda
- Someone who will thrive as part of a small, high-performing team
