Field Underwriter Position
A respected insurance organization is seeking a Field Underwriter to manage a profitable and growing book of business within an assigned territory. This position requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to build lasting relationships with agents while supporting corporate objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct on-site inspections to gather underwriting information and assess exposures.
Collaborate with internal partners to drive new business growth.
Evaluate risks for acceptance, renewal, modification, or declination in line with underwriting criteria and authority levels.
Analyze applications, inspections, credit reports, motor vehicle records, and other data to make informed underwriting decisions.
Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with underwriting standards.
Provide guidance to agents and team members on risk analysis, eligibility, rating, and company practices.
Monitor underwriting results within the territory and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
Offer feedback to product teams and contribute to the development of underwriting guidelines.
Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally, adapting to changing market conditions.
Build collaborative relationships with agents, encouraging new submissions and retention of profitable business.
Deliver loss control services and recommend risk mitigation measures.
Participate in marketing efforts, agency visits, training sessions, and company meetings.
Travel as required, including overnight stays and visits to the home office.
Complete special assignments and other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Minimum of two years of underwriting experience, with an agriculture background considered an asset.
Professional designations such as AINS required; AFIS designation to be completed within 24 months. CPCU completion strongly encouraged.
Skills and Competencies
Strong knowledge of rating requirements and policy forms.
Effective time management, organizational, and computer skills.
Excellent listening, decision-making, and customer service abilities.
Ability to analyze business reports, technical procedures, and regulations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently.
Must maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Ability to obtain and maintain a drone license within 6-12 months for farm inspections.
