ERCOT Trader

My client a leading asset manager in NYC is currently seeking an ERCOT Trader to join their team. This is a hybrid role based in NY.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply quantitative analysis to interpret market dynamics and support data-driven decision-making, using inputs such as weather forecasts, ISO data, asset-specific information, and PPA terms.
  • Manage volumetric, congestion, and DART exposures through instruments like outright power, CRRs/PTPs, virtuals, and options.
  • Co-develop tools and integrated systems that support trading operations-such as stack models, bidding platforms, and performance dashboards.
  • Monitor and analyze market fundamentals, trends, and regulatory developments to stay ahead of evolving conditions.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to exchange real-time asset insights and provide market intelligence that informs operational decisions (e.g., maintenance planning, LD forecasting).
  • Present hedge strategies and performance outcomes to executive committees and cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, legal, and asset management.
  • Align with trading teams across the organization to share insights and maintain a cohesive market perspective.

Requirements:

  • Have a solid understanding of ERCOT market design and operations-or comparable experience in another U.S. competitive wholesale power market.
  • Bring hands-on experience trading in power markets, particularly with short- to medium-term products like dailies, weeklies, virtuals, and congestion rights.
  • Are skilled in quantitative analysis and can apply those skills effectively in a market context.
  • Are passionate about the energy sector, especially renewable technologies such as wind, solar, and energy storage.
  • Stay informed on market trends, fundamentals, and regulatory changes (e.g., RTC+B in ERCOT), and can assess their impact on market conditions.
