Business Development Job Overview:

A leading private equity firm is seeking a Business Development Associate to join their dynamic team in Chicago. This role involves identifying, evaluating, and sourcing potential investment opportunities, with a focus on proprietary outreach to target companies. The successful candidate will work closely with senior team members, assisting with current deal flow and driving outreach efforts.

Business Development Associate Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and source new investment opportunities in line with the firm's investment strategy.
  • Leverage a network of industry contacts, intermediaries, and external partners to generate deal flow.
  • Conduct outreach to potential acquisition targets, including executives, advisors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Conduct comprehensive market research to identify trends, competitive landscapes, and potential growth sectors.
  • Analyze industry dynamics to identify attractive investment opportunities and emerging markets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key industry contacts, including investment banks, brokers, executives, and other deal-sourcing intermediaries.
  • Represent the firm at industry conferences, networking events, and meetings to enhance deal flow.
  • Track and manage a pipeline of potential investment opportunities, ensuring timely follow-ups and accurate reporting.
  • Monitor deal progress and collaborate with senior deal teams to support progression from initial sourcing to closing.

Business Development Associate Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in investing banking.
  • At least 1 year of experience doing Business Development for a private equity firm.
  • Strong understanding of financial modeling, valuation techniques, and investment analysis.
  • Proven ability to source and identify investment opportunities through networking and industry research.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with senior executives and deal intermediaries.
  • Highly organized, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Experience with financial modeling and database management tools is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
