Actuarial Analyst
Position Summary:
The Actuarial Analyst will support pricing, forecasting, and financial analysis for Medicare Supplement products within the health plan. This role is ideal for a candidate pursuing actuarial credentials (pre-ASA) but offers consideration for a higher-level position if the candidate has achieved ASA designation. The analyst will work closely with senior actuaries and business leaders to ensure competitive pricing, regulatory compliance, and profitability across the Medicare Supplement portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Pricing & Rate Development:
- Assist in developing and reviewing premium rates for Medicare Supplement products in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Support actuarial filings and respond to regulatory inquiries.
Financial Analysis & Forecasting:
- Prepare and analyze financial projections, trend studies, and reserve calculations.
- Monitor experience and identify drivers of profitability and risk.
Data & Modeling:
- Build and maintain actuarial models for pricing, valuation, and forecasting.
- Utilize statistical and predictive modeling techniques to support decision-making.
Reporting & Communication:
- Prepare reports and presentations for internal stakeholders, including finance and product teams.
- Communicate complex actuarial concepts in a clear and actionable manner.
Professional Development:
- Progress toward ASA designation through exams and continuing education.
- Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and actuarial best practices.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
Experience:
- 1-3 years of actuarial experience in healthcare or insurance; Medicare Supplement experience strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with rating methodologies and regulatory requirements for Med Supp products.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Excel and actuarial software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Preferred Attributes:
- Passed at least 2 actuarial exams; ASA designation highly desirable.
- Experience with SQL, R, Python, or other data analysis tools.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
