About the Opportunity
A leading energy trading and power generation organization is seeking a Senior Systems Analyst - Commercial Risk to support and enhance critical commercial risk applications and trading systems. This individual will serve as a key liaison between business stakeholders and technology teams, helping drive system performance, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement across the trading and risk management landscape.
This is an opportunity to work closely with Commercial, Risk, and IT teams in a fast-paced environment supporting energy trading operations and business-critical applications.
Responsibilities
- Support the implementation, configuration, enhancement, and ongoing maintenance of Commercial Risk applications and system integrations
- Provide day-to-day production support, incident management, troubleshooting, and issue resolution for trading and risk platforms
- Develop a strong understanding of Commercial Risk business processes, workflows, data, and system architecture
- Analyze business processes to identify operational risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation and improvement
- Gather business requirements and translate them into functional and technical specifications
- Serve as a liaison between business users, developers, vendors, and technology teams
- Investigate application, integration, data, and business process issues and perform root cause analysis
- Support application releases, upgrades, testing, deployments, and post-production validation activities
- Partner with business users during User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and defect remediation efforts
- Support SOX controls, governance requirements, change management processes, and audit activities
- Monitor system performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, supportability, and data quality
- Prepare system recommendations, project updates, and technical assessments for both business and technical audiences
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support knowledge sharing across the team
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Finance, Engineering, Economics, Accounting, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of experience as a Systems Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, Application Analyst, or similar role supporting enterprise applications
- Experience supporting Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM/CTRM) platforms
- Strong understanding of front-to-back trading and risk processes, including:
- Trade capture
- Trade exchange integrations
- Mark-to-market processes
- Confirmations
- Settlements
- Accounting
- Compliance
- Risk reporting
- Strong SQL and relational database experience
- Proven troubleshooting and application support expertise
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional business and technology teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting commercial risk and trading applications such as Openlink, PowerOptix, cQuant, or similar ETRM/CTRM platforms
- Experience integrating business processes, data, applications, and technology solutions within trading environments
- Strong understanding of energy, commodities, trading, risk management, or financial services operations
- Experience managing complex application enhancements and system integrations
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience presenting technical concepts to both business users and senior leadership
