Senior Oil Derivatives Trader (Spec), Location: Global/Singapore

We are working on a confidential mandate seeking an Senior Oil Derivatives Trader (Spec), cross barrel (or any part of the barrel) to join a global commodities trading organization. The role is focused on actively generating profits through discretionary trading of oil‑related derivatives, operating within clearly defined risk and VaR limits. The position sits on a proprietary trading book and is performance‑driven. The role can be based in Singapore or one of their key offices globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate consistent P&L through speculative trading of oil derivatives, within assigned VaR and risk limits
  • Trade a range of oil‑linked instruments, including but not limited to futures, options, spreads, and structured derivatives
  • Develop and execute directional and relative‑value trading strategies across crude and refined products
  • Actively manage risk exposure, ensuring compliance with VaR, stress limits, and stop‑loss parameters
  • Monitor global macro, geopolitical, and fundamental oil market drivers to identify trading opportunities
  • Work closely with risk management, middle office, and operations to ensure accurate P&L, valuation, and reporting
  • Adjust positioning dynamically in response to market conditions, volatility, and liquidity
  • Maintain strong discipline around capital usage, drawdowns, and risk‑adjusted returns

Key Performance Metrics

  • Absolute and risk‑adjusted P&L performance
  • Adherence to VaR, drawdown, and loss limits
  • Consistency of returns across market regimes
  • Quality of trade rationale and post‑trade analysis

Requirements

  • Proven experience trading oil or energy derivatives in a speculative or proprietary capacity
  • Consistently making profits year-on-year (i.e. no wild swings in P&L)
  • Strong understanding of derivatives pricing, volatility, and Greeks
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a VaR‑constrained trading book
  • Solid grasp of oil market fundamentals, term structure, and cross‑commodity relationships
  • High level of risk awareness, discipline, and accountability
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast‑moving trading environment
  • Excellent analytical skills and market intuition
