Database Platform Engineer

Looking to bring on a Database Platform Engineer to join a high performance team with a top asset management firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run and evolve database workloads on Kubernetes, including building automation through custom controllers and resources
  • Deliver resilient, declarative setups across a range of databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Snowflake, ClickHouse, and Redis
  • Build lakehouse components using Apache Iceberg and support cross‑engine querying through Trino
  • Manage schema changes using migration frameworks like Flyway, Liquibase, or Atlas
  • Implement GitOps‑driven workflows and create Kubernetes‑native dashboards and alerts
  • Develop tools to smooth the transition from VM‑based and cloud‑managed databases to the in‑house platform
  • Create self‑service capabilities and embed strong security patterns throughout the Kubernetes environment

Required Skills

  • Hands‑on experience with several database engines across both analytical and transactional workloads
  • Solid understanding of Kubernetes primitives and how they apply to stateful services
  • Background with declarative infrastructure and configuration‑as‑code practices
  • Proficiency in Go or Python, with experience in CI/CD and GitOps pipelines
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes logging, metrics, and tracing ecosystems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Operational experience running databases or other stateful systems on Kubernetes in production settings
  • Exposure to writing or maintaining Kubernetes operators, especially ones tied to database systems
  • Comfort with Snowflake operations, SQL Server automation, and schema‑migration tooling
  • Understanding of lakehouse architectures, Trino/Presto engines, and data‑movement frameworks
  • Knowledge of analytical engines (e.g., ClickHouse) and key‑value stores (e.g., Redis)

What Sets You Apart

  • A platform‑first mindset grounded in cloud‑native engineering approaches
  • Ability to span multiple layers-from Kubernetes internals to user‑facing tooling
  • Interest in replacing traditional database operations with automation and declarative workflows
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and a drive to stay ahead of emerging technologies
