About the Company:
A leading proprietary trading firm specializing in electricity and related commodity markets is seeking a dynamic and commercially minded Chief Financial Officer to join its executive leadership team. The firm is known for its innovative trading strategies, data-driven culture, and strong presence in the energy and commodities space. The team runs in a lean capacity and is known for its aggressive strategy when it comes to growth.
Position Overview:
The CFO will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive team, overseeing all financial operations while playing a pivotal role in business development and client engagement. This individual will be instrumental in driving growth through financial structuring, expanding the firm's client base, and leveraging their industry network to unlock new revenue opportunities. The CFO will lead a team of 10+ professionals and help shape the firm's long-term financial and commercial strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership
- Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the firm's business objectives
- Lead financial planning, forecasting, and performance analysis
- Oversee cash flow, capital allocation, and risk management
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance
- Manage audits, tax planning, and legal financial obligations
- Build and mentor a high-performing finance and accounting team
Business Development & Strategic Growth
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities through strategic partnerships and client acquisition
- Leverage existing relationships to bring in clients, investors, and counterparties
- Structure and negotiate complex financial transactions and commercial deals
- Collaborate with trading and strategy teams to align financial planning with market opportunities
- Represent the firm in industry forums, conferences, and client meetings to enhance visibility and credibility
- Drive initiatives to expand the firm's footprint in electricity and related commodity markets
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of progressive finance experience, ideally within proprietary trading, energy markets, or commodities
- 5+ years in a senior leadership or CFO role
- Proven track record in financial structuring and business development
- Strong network of industry contacts and ability to bring client relationships to the firm
- Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and negotiation skills
