AVP/VP - Inland Marine Underwriter

Location: Hybrid (3 days in‑office per week; Wednesday & Thursday required + 1 flexible day)
Salary: Competitive, based on experience (includes bonus + full benefits package)

Our client, a well‑established specialty insurance organization known for disciplined underwriting, strong broker relationships, and a commitment to profitable portfolio growth, is seeking an experienced Inland Marine Underwriter (AVP/VP level) to join their team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a professional, collaborative environment with meaningful autonomy and the ability to shape a growing Inland Marine book.


What You'll Do

  • Manage and grow an assigned Inland Marine portfolio, with responsibility for new business development, retention, and profitability
  • Exercise delegated Underwriting Authority and make confident, well‑reasoned decisions to support long‑term loss ratio and book health
  • Review, analyze, and underwrite submitted Inland Marine risks with precision and speed
  • Support daily account needs, ensuring timely responses and high service standards for brokers and internal partners
  • Build and strengthen relationships with producers ranging from large multinational brokerages to independent retail and wholesale firms
  • Travel monthly to meet brokers and reinforce strategic partnerships, plus quarterly for internal meetings or company events
  • Collaborate across departments to support organizational goals and participate in special projects as assigned

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of Inland Marine underwriting experience, with a proven track record of profitable book management
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to negotiate, present, and maintain professional broker relationships
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a cohesive underwriting and operational team
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort with underwriting systems, rating tools, and standard software (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)
  • Property & Casualty license (or willingness to obtain within required timeframe)
  • Preferred: CIS, CSR, AIS, or completion of insurance education programs; business-related degree or equivalent experience

Work Environment & Requirements

  • Standard schedule: Monday-Friday, 9 AM-5 PM
  • Hybrid model: 3 days/week in office (Wednesday & Thursday required; one additional office day is employee‑selected) + 2 days WFH
  • Will occasionally require extended hours for deadlines, travel, or special projects
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods and operate standard office equipment (computer, phone, copier, scanner)
