VP Accountant - Reinsurance
Key Responsibilities:
Lead US GAAP Accounting Operations:
- Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Manage accounting for complex insurance products including life, annuity, and reinsurance transactions.
Support UK Public Company Filings:
- Collaborate with UK-based finance teams to support IFRS reporting and disclosures.
- Assist in the preparation of annual reports, interim statements, and other public filings.
- Ensure alignment between US GAAP and IFRS reporting frameworks where applicable.
Technical Accounting & Policy Development:
- Provide guidance on new accounting standards and their impact on financial reporting.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, integrity, and accountability.
Audit & Regulatory Liaison:
- Serve as the primary contact for external auditors and regulatory bodies.
- Coordinate audit processes and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with actuarial, finance, tax, and legal teams to support business initiatives.
- Provide accounting insights for strategic transactions, including M&A and capital markets activities.
Qualifications:
- CPA required; advanced degree (MBA or Master's in Accounting) preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Deep expertise in US GAAP, particularly for insurance and financial services.
- Experience with IFRS and UK public company reporting strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of life and annuity insurance products and related accounting.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex projects across geographies.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience in a dual-listed or multinational insurance company.
- Familiarity with SEC and UK FCA reporting requirements.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive clarity in a fast-paced environment.
