Quantamental Volatility Research Analyst
I'm partnered with a $10B+ global multi‑strategy hedge fund in NYC looking to add to their volatility research team that supports their broader volatility trading business. The Fundamental Research Analyst will support the investment team by applying both fundamental and data‑driven research. The role focuses on understanding how corporate developments and broader themes influence volatility and trading opportunities. This also involves analyzing upcoming corporate events and identifying catalysts that may affect pricing. This role works closely with the trading desk and will provide research and data inputs that inform both systematic and discretionary strategies.
This role is perfect for someone who is curious, analytical, and motivated to deepen their skillset.
Responsibilities

- Evaluate potential market mispricings through fundamental analysis and work with traders to turn those insights into tradeable ideas.
- Analyze possible outcomes for upcoming events and estimate the range of price reactions.
- Build a strong fundamental understanding of companies, industries, and broader sector dynamics.
- Use internal technology and tools to create models, signals, and analytical frameworks that support the trading process.
- Monitor breaking news and provide timely interpretation of developments that may affect markets.
- Source new data, organize datasets, and use them to generate or refine trade ideas.
- Take ownership of your development by building new skills, expanding your knowledge base, and consistently looking for ways to add value and contribute to alpha generation.
Qualifications
- Prior experience or demonstrated interest in fundamental research, company valuation, and identifying key catalysts and risks in equities.
- Understanding of option greeks and basic concepts in volatility or derivatives trading.
- Interest in working in a fast‑moving trading environment and some familiarity with markets or derivatives is preferred.
- Programming ability ideally in Python, SQL, or Java.
- Strong quantitative reasoning skills and the ability to communicate ideas clearly in writing and in conversation.
- Solid foundation in primary research techniques and financial analysis.
- Proactive mindset with strong attention to detail, the ability to learn quickly, and comfort working with uncertainty.
- Exposure to any of the following areas is beneficial: event‑driven investing, credit work, legal or regulatory research, corporate actions, special situations, or activist campaigns.
