Property Controller / Head of Property Accounting

A growing affordable housing owner, developer, and property management organization is seeking a Property Controller / Head of Property Accounting to lead accounting and reporting for a large multifamily real estate portfolio. Reporting directly to the CFO, this individual will play a key role in driving financial performance, strengthening controls, improving processes, and supporting continued growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead accounting and financial reporting across acquisitions, development projects, stabilized operations, and dispositions.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP compliance while partnering with external auditors.
- Drive automation, process improvement, and systems enhancements across Yardi and other financial platforms.
- Partner with property management, asset management, and executive leadership to support strategic decision-making.
- Lead, develop, and mentor a growing accounting team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA required.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
- Strong property accounting or real estate accounting experience.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP and experience with Yardi, MRI, or similar real estate accounting software.
- Track record of leading teams, improving processes, and supporting growth within a complex real estate environment.
- Affordable housing experience preferred.
