Market Risk Analyst
A top global Commodities Merchant/Trading House is looking to expand their risk team in Houston, TX and bring on a Market Risk Analyst/Senior Analyst. To lead product risk coverage of their commodities trading book.
This firm is seeking driven professionals to lead product risk coverage for its physical commodities trading book. In this high‑impact role, you'll sit on the trading floor as part of a front‑line risk team, partnering closely with traders to approve large transactions, communicate daily movements in VaR and P&L, ensure precise valuation of the book, maintain alignment with senior management expectations, and deliver insights that directly influence daily decision‑making.
Ideal candidates will have 1-5 years of experience in Market Risk, Product Risk, Product Control, covering at least one commodity product (oil, gas, power, and/or light ends). Proficiency in VBA or Python. Exceptional communication skills and the confidence to engage senior stakeholders are key to success in this role.
Responsibilities:
- Produce and analyze daily risk reports, including P&L, exposure metrics, and key drivers behind market and physical cargo/gas movements.
- Maintain the integrity of the book of records through accurate valuation, pricing, and oversight of complex financial hedges.
- Partner closely with traders, operators, and senior risk leadership to communicate results, resolve system issues, and escalate discrepancies in reporting.
- Support the desk with critical ad hoc analysis and problem‑solving in a fast‑moving trading environment.
Qualifications:
- 1-5 years of experience in Market Risk, Product Risk, Product Control, or a similar quantitative function; commodity exposure (oil/gas preferred) is a plus.
- Proficiency in technical tools such as VBA/Python.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, high numeracy, and the ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
- Effective communicator capable of engaging diverse stakeholders, including senior management, and translating complex ideas clearly.
